Primäres Ziel der Adipositas-Chirurgie ist der Gewichtsverlust bei Menschen mit einem Body-Mass-Index >40 kg/m². Bei hohem Risiko ist auch die Verhinderung des Todes Therapieziel – vermittelt durch die Behandlung des metabolischen Syndroms.
