Natriumchlorid
Natriumchlorid oder NaCl ist die chemische Bezeichnung für Kochsalz. In der Medizin findet Natriumchlorid sehr unterschiedliche Anwendung.

Anwendung
Der Wirkstoff wird in Lösungen mit Wasser eingesetzt, um einen Mangel an Natrium oder Chlorid auszugleichen., wie er beispielsweise durch Durchfall oder Erbrechen entsteht. In der Notfallmedizin und bei Operationen werden Kochsalzlösungen intravenös gegeben, um Blutverluste auszugleichen und das Blutvolumen zu erhöhen. Natriumchlorid in Augentropfen lindert Beschwerden durch trockene Augen. Bei Schnupfen und Nasennebenhöhlenentzündungen wird Natriumchlorid als Spülung verwendet.
Wirkmechanismus
Die Flüssigkeitsregulation im gesamten Organismus ist stark von der Natriumkonzentration abhängig. Natriummangel trocknet den Körper gewissermaßen aus. Natriumchlorid ersetzt das fehlende Natrium und versorgt den Stoffwechsel gleichzeitig mit Chlorid. Chloride sind wesentlich daran beteiligt, den Säure-Basen-Haushalt im Körper im Gleichgewicht zu halten.
In Medikamenten ist Natriumchlorid meist als Natriumchlorid-1-Wasser oder Natriumchlorid-10-Wasser enthalten.
