Anwendung
In der Medizin wird Propylenglycol unter anderem verwendet, um Pfropfen aus Ohrenschmalz aufzulösen. Als Lebensmittelzusatzstoff ist Propylenglycol für Kaugummis und Aromen zugelassen. In jüngster Zeit hat Propylenglycol als Hauptbestandteil der Liquids in E-Zigaretten eine neue Verbreitung gefunden.
In Medikamenten wird Propylenglycol vor allem als Lösungsmittel und Trägersubstanz verwendet, unter anderem als Propylenglycolalginat, Propylenglycolmonopalmitostearat, Propylenglycolmonocaprylat und Propylenglycolmonolaurat.
